The Awakening of Spring Within: Embracing Presence and Releasing Old Stories

The kiss of warm weather on my cheek, after weeks of cold snaps, surrender, healing, and dormancy, floods my heart with deep awe and gratitude. The sensation of the air tickling my skin, the sun’s warmth on my face, and the birds singing in the trees—it's like Prince Charming’s kiss waking Snow White from her deep slumber. It’s a gift, a reminder that every breath is a portal into compassion, presence, new beginnings, and unlimited potential. The fertile ground beneath my feet energizes my entire being, reminding me that new life is about to spring forth into a vibrant canvas of miraculous wonder.

Ironically, despite entering menopause, I feel that same aliveness and fertility within my core. My body may no longer be designed to host the miracle of growing a child, but my spirit is overflowing with creativity, possibility, and the renewal of life. In this season of transformation, I’ve come face-to-face with the storytellers of my mind. Positive Intelligence calls them “The Judge” and his accomplices—the Saboteurs: The Restless, The Pleaser, The Avoider, The Hyper-Achiever, The Hyper-Vigilant, The Hyper-Rational, The Stickler, The Victim, and The Controller. Then there’s The Sage, the wise part of me that knows how to discern truth from illusion.

Through the process of meeting these characters, I’ve found a deeper connection with the “Observer”—that quiet, present awareness that simply notices without judgment. As I began to observe my thoughts, I noticed subtle shifts—moments where I caught the stories my mind was spinning. Grounding myself in the present moment, I began to release those stories, the judgment, and the limiting beliefs. With each exhale, I opened my eyes wider to the newness of everything around me.

Like a seed buried in darkness, something inside me began to crack open. It started to sprout. I felt the miracle of being human in this very moment—alive, aware, and breathing. Mark Nepo, in his book The Book of Awakening, reminds us that we could have been born an ant, that we could die in our sleep and wake up tomorrow as another life form—or not wake up at all. And he asks: As one of the rarest, most wondrous creatures to walk this planet, what will we do with our hands? What will we ask, and of whom? How will we honor the miracle of this precious gift called life?

Spring is the perfect reminder that there is no limit to the potential waiting to bloom within us. It shows us that we are not separate from nature, but intricately woven into the beautiful tapestry of existence. The sun, the breeze, the tender moments of nature—they act like love’s first kiss, inviting us to take our first breath of the most powerful life we can experience, right here and now.

We each have the power to release the old stories that no longer serve us—stories of poverty, limitation, victimhood—and to rewrite the script of our lives. We are not bound by the narratives of the past. Instead, we can step into the present, unleashing our full magic through presence, breath, awareness, and connection to all that is.

After all, we are stardust—part of something vast and magnificent. And in every moment, we have the opportunity to remember and embody the miracle of being fully alive.

LOVE BIG. LAUGH LOUD. HUG HARD. WRITE ON.
